Jesse Williams of 'Grey's Anatomy' drops by Tampa Bay Times for filming

Actor Jesse Williams was filming in St. Petersburg (including our office)

Grey's Anatomy co-star Jesse Williams dropped by Tampa Bay Times offices in St. Petersburg on Monday, taping segments for the upcoming documentary miniseries America Divided, executive produced by Shonda Rhimes, Common and Norman Lear, among others.

Williams and his production crew attended a staff meeting where the Times' two most recent Pulitzer Prizes were announced. Times editor and vice president Neil Brown joked to the assembled crowd: "Clearly everybody got the word that the dude from Grey's Anatomy is here."

The actor and social activist, whose credits include Lee Daniels' The Butler and The Cabin in the Woods, is billed as America Divided's senior producer. Concluding his second research trip to St. Petersburg, Williams declined to speak on the record about the topic for the series.

"We want to hold off on that because we're still doing interviews," Williams said. "We don't want to allow anything to color people choosing to say yes, to sit down and talk to us."

Earlier Monday, Williams tweeted a link to his Instagram account, noting he is "producing (and) acting as correspondent for the education segment of Norman Lear's documentary."

America Divided is expected to debut in October on the Epix movie channel.
