Locally filmed 'Investigator' movie donating profits to charity

Charity begins at theaters this weekend, with a movie filmed last year around Tampa Bay figuratively passing the collection plate. Producers of The Investigator, a faith-based drama written by Richard Romano, will donate 10 percent of their profits today, Saturday and Sunday to the Pediatric Cancer Fund. The beneficiary stems from Gabriel's Messenger Films representatives meeting young cancer patient Tony Colton at the movie's red carpet premiere in St. Petersburg three weeks ago. The Investigator fictionalizes Romano's work as a Catholic school criminal justice teacher dealing with personal religious doubt through a class project on Jesus' crucifixion. Romano is the brother of Emmy winner Ray Romano (Everybody Loves Raymond), who attended the premiere, at right. The Investigator is showing at BayWalk 20 in St. Petersburg and Centro Ybor 20 in Ybor City. — Steve Persall, Times movie critic
