Tampa Pitcher Show raising money to go digital

Hoping it isn't too little, too late, Tampa Pitcher Show is hosting a fundraising concert Sunday, with proceeds going toward installing a digital projection system. The Quivering Rhythm Hounds, the Lint Rollers, 2 Undercover and the Lonesome Hobos will perform from noon-5 p.m. An $8 donation includes three tickets for drawings being held all day, in addition to a blind auction. Nearly 90 percent of North American theaters have switched to digital projection, after being warned for years by movie distributors that production of film prints of new releases would cease. Digital prints are cheaper to produce, ship and maintain. The conversion process takes weeks to complete, at costs upwards of $60,000. — Steve Persall, Times movie critic
