Matchbox Twenty, Goo Goo Dolls coming to Live Nation Amphitheatre in Tampa

Well, this was bound to happen eventually, wasn't it?

Two titans of late-'90s alterna-pop radio, Matchbox Twenty and the Goo Goo Dolls, are teaming up for a North American tour this summer. So far there's only one tour stop in Florida, and guess what? Tampa's got it.

The bands will hit the Live Nation Amphitheatre at the Florida State Fairgrounds on Aug. 4, according to their respective websites. If you love Slide and 3 A.M. — or even if you really can't tell the difference between the two songs — you'll want to get tickets when they go on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday. Prices haven't been announced, but we'll keep you posted.

Interestingly, both bands have passed through Tampa Bay on their own this month. The Goo Goo Dolls were part of Busch Gardens' Bands, Brew & BBQ series on March 3, while Matchbox Twenty were at Clearwater's Capitol Theatre on March 15, playing a private show for Ruth Eckerd Hall's Friends of Music program.
