Rolling Stones tour dates coming Tuesday; Orlando likely, but what about Tampa?

If you were hoping the Rolling Stones might announce a tour date in Tampa this week, brace yourself for a little dissatisfaction.

After two weeks of cryptic billboards hinting that the iconic rockers are plotting a U.S. tour with at least one date in Florida, the City of Orlando has called a press conference for 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Citrus Bowl for a "major concert announcement" from Mayor Buddy Dyer — the strongest sign yet that the Stones are playing Orlando, not Tampa. A senior vice president from AEG Live, which promoted the Stones' 2013 U.S. tour, will also be on hand.

According to at least one well-connected fan website, the Citrus Bowl was always the favorite for the gig, rumored to be set for June 12 or 13. But tour announcement billboards along Interstate 275 in Tampa and St. Petersburg sparked speculation that Raymond James Stadium was also in the mix. Tampa Sports Authority chief Eric Hart recently confirmed to the Times that negotiations with the Stones had taken place, but did not elaborate on details.
