Smash success Katharine McPhee comes to Clearwater

Sorry, Carrie Underwood, but Katharine McPhee may be the most versatile American Idol star that Fox has ever produced. The 29-year-old's voice thrust her into the limelight nearly a decade ago, but it was a short-lived, way-better-than-good combination of singing and acting on NBC's Smash that has earned her staying power. She has since dabbled in film and gone on to record a pair of records with another on the way. She'll dip into those LPs (and presumably some Smash material) at this show at the sparkling new Capitol Theatre, where Tim Wilkins will open with his super-clean brand of comedy. The show is at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at 405 Cleveland St., Clearwater. $50-$100. (727) 791-7400.
