Restaurants:

  • Euphemia Haye Restaurant

    Cuisine: Fine dining
Features: Date night, Live music, Upscale

Manatee beaches: 5540 Gulf of Mexico Drive, Longboat Key, 34228

Opened in 1975 on Longboat Key, the restaurant has marched to the beat of its own drum, serving wildly sophisticated and far-reaching food in a lush garden setting. It always wins top honors from local magazines and national food mags as well, and you need only to try the smoked salmon on buckwheat crepes, fried green tomatoes or signature crisp roasted duck with seasonal fruit sauce to see why. The wine list is broad, with good depth at every price point. Prices are high and dishes are rich in the restaurant, so you can try the lighter/cheaper fare upstairs in the HayeLoft if you feel inclined. Chef/owner Raymond Arpke also offers cooking classes at the restaurant.

  • Manatee beaches: 2100 Ave. B, Bradenton Beach, 34217

  • Beach Bistro

    Cuisine: Caribbean, French
Features: Beach/Waterfront, Date night, Outdoor seating, Upscale

Manatee beaches: 6600 Gulf Drive, Holmes Beach, 34217

It has won nearly every award it is possible to win in Florida. Foodies and critics go on about the intimate dining room draped, tent-like, with silk; the wine list's exceptional breadth; and the playful French/Floribbean cuisine with sly Pacific Rim accents. One can put on the dog and dine in the main dining room, or shake the sand out of the old flip-flops and grab a seat on the casual cafe side (where you can still order from the splurgier side's menu, like classic rack of lamb with a textbook port demi-glace).

  • Beach House Restaurant

    Cuisine: American casual, Seafood casual
    Features: Beach/Waterfront, Kid-friendly, Outdoor seating

Manatee beaches: 200 Gulf Drive N, Bradenton Beach, 34217

Once a rundown little place known as the Harbor House, the Beach House got a makeover in 1993 with new owner Ed Chiles, who also owns the SandBar further north on Anna Maria. The formula is simple: reasonably priced food served in a great beachside setting. Adults can sip a frozen cocktail while kids play on the beach just steps away.

A massive deck runs the length of the restaurant, with parts of it covered. So it's a sure bet that when sundown arrives, the place is packed with locals and tourists alike enjoying libations and live music.

  • Da Giorgio Ristorante

    Cuisine: Italian

Manatee beaches: 5702 Marina Drive, Holmes Beach, 34217

    Cuisine: American casual, Seafood casual
Features: Beach/Waterfront, Date night, Kid-friendly, Live music, Outdoor seating

Manatee Beaches: 100 Spring Ave., Anna Maria, 34216

This decades-old favorite is one of the few restaurants in Tampa Bay where you can walk down a set of steps and find yourself sloshing through the teal gulf. Yes, it's plopped right there on the north strand of Anna Maria Island and still serving up tasty seafood and killer pina coladas. You can dine inside (but save that as a refuge if you get caught in a wicked thunderstorm in the summer) or outside on one of their open or covered decks. Whether you're coming off the sand for a quick bite of lunch or making a date night out of it with dinner and live music, this quintessential Tampa Bay experience won't disappoint.
