SPRING HILL — A classic musical made famous by Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds and Donald O’Connor will come alive this weekend when the youth production of Singin’ in the Rain Jr. is presented at Stage West Community Playhouse, 8390 Forest Oaks Blvd.
The show tells the story of performers struggling with the transition of silent films to "talkies." Don Lockwood and Lina Lamont are a hot item in silent films. But making the transition in making a musical, Lina’s voice is anything but good. Kathy Selden, a young stage actress, is hired to do the talking and singing for Lina.
The show features classic hit songs such as Good Morning, Make ‘em Laugh and Singin’ in the Rain.
The Stage West production stars Chay Nott as Don Lockwood, Victoria Hernandez as Kathy Seldon, Angela Gluchowski as Lina Lamont, and Shawna Hopper as Cosmo Brown, Don Lockwood’s old vaudeville partner. The director is Jennifer Vilardi and the assistant director is Dakota Ruiz. Carol Ballard is the musical director. Toni Dwyer is the choreographer and Danielle Clark the assistant choreographer.
