Veteran comic D.L. Hughley is a Dancing With the Stars survivor, but it will be current affairs and strong opinions, not spangles, that will be flashing when the comedian takes the stage at the Improv at Centro Ybor this weekend. He's well-known for his strong opinions on everything from Colorado legalizing marijuana ("They should change their state flag to a box of Cap'n Crunch") to the value of having nosey white neighbors. He has a popular syndicated radio show in between acting and comedy gigs. Tickets are $30 at the Improv, 1600 E Eighth Ave., Tampa. Shows are at 8 and 10:30 p.m. Friday, 7:30 and 10 p.m. Saturday and 7 p.m. Sunday. (813) 864-4000. improvtampa.com.

  5. McDonald's soft serve in Florida is made with handshakes and happy cows

Owners Sutton Rucks, Jr., and his wife Kris Rucks sell their milk to SouthEast Dairies cooperative, Edward Coryn of Dairy Mix in St. Petersburg buys it, transforms it into soft-serve ice cream base, and sells it to all the McDonald's.
