CLEARWATER

Perennial hit musicals — including Jersey Boys, A Chorus Line, Cabaret and Chicago — plus another round of holiday favorites fill out the coming Broadway season at Ruth Eckerd Hall, the venue has announced. Tickets for Ruth Eckerd's 2017-2018 season go on sale May 19.

The season opens with A Charlie Brown Christmas Live on Stage (Dec. 16), a stage version of the animated television special and the only show to run at the Capitol Theatre, a Ruth Eckerd venue on Cleveland Street in downtown Clearwater.

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer: The Musical (Dec. 22) wraps up the holiday season. The season resumes with Cabaret (Feb. 2), Roundabout Theatre's relaunch of its successful 1998 and 2014 revivals.

Then comes the long-running Rain — a Tribute to the Beatles (Feb. 10), a multimedia show re-enacting about 30 Beatles songs with psychedelic effects. This year, Rain coincides with the 50th anniversary of the Fab Four's release of its Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album and will include performing the album in its entirety.

The season closes out with long-standing hit musicals. Jersey Boys (March 30-31), the story of the Four Seasons, makes its debut at Ruth Eckerd Hall.

A lavish production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella (April 6-7) comes next; followed by A Chorus Line (April 21), which follows 17 dancers auditioning for roles in a Broadway musical. The show opened at Broadway's Schubert Theatre in 1975 and ran 15 years; this tour is the latest in a string of revivals.

The razzle-dazzle comes with Chicago (May 4-5), which propelled Bob Fosse's story about Prohibition-era corruption to six Tony Awards and numerous world tours.
