Local actor to swing into 'Tarzan' role in Bradenton

By day, Brian Kleinschmidt operates three Anytime Fitness centers in the SouthShore and Brandon area.

Beginning next week, however, Kleinschmidt will take the stage with a bare chest and dreadlocks as the lead in the Manatee Players' production of Tarzan.

Kleinschmidt, a Riverview High graduate who appeared on Season 15 of The Amazing Race, stars in the musical based on the Disney movie and Edgar Rice Burroughs' Tarzan of the Apes. The show features music by rock legend Phil Collins and a book by Tony Award-winning playwright David Henry Hwang.

Kleinschmidt is the son of Ellen Kleinschmidt, president and music director of the Performing Arts Company of Sun City Center.

The show opens at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 7 and runs through Aug. 24 at the Manatee Performing Arts Center, 502 Third Ave. in Bradenton. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays, 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 2 p.m. Sundays. Tickets range from $27 to $37 for adults, $15 to $18 for teachers, and $13 to $16 for students.
