'Shrek the Musical' takes the stage

"Ogres are like onions," Shrek tells Donkey. They stink? "Yes. ... No." They make you cry? ... "No! Layers. Onions have layers. Ogres have layers." Thus begins the friendship of Donkey and Shrek, the ogre who falls for Princess Fiona, played by Haley Abbott, 15, left. Shrek the Musical, staged by students of the Marcia P. Hoffman Performing Arts Institute, Ruth Eckerd Hall's teaching arm, will be presented at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. Friday and 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday at the Clearwater hall. Tickets are $5 for the 10 a.m. show; for all others $15, $10 for children. (727) 791-7400;
