Jack Holloway plays the melancholy Dane in Shakespeare's most famous play in a staging by Tampa Repertory Theatre. The ghost of Hamlet's father is played by Jim Wicker in the cast that includes Steve Mountan's Polonius, Ned Averill-Snell as Claudius, Emily Belvo as Ophelia and Jon Cho as Laertes. Robin Gordon, a former USF theater professor, returns for her first bay area stage appearance in 14 years as Hamlet's mother, Gertrude. "Although it's one of the most famous plays of all time, Hamlet can still surprise," director C. David Frankel says. "It's an exciting story that twists and turns, and veers from the sublime to the comic and back again." The coproduction by Tampa Rep and Hat Trick Theatre opens at 7:30 tonight and runs through May 12 at Studio Theatre at HCC Ybor City, 2204 N 15th St., Tampa. $15, $20. Tickets at the door or at tamparep.org.
