'Venus in Fur' comes to Sarasota

Scott Kerns and Sarah Nealis in Venus in Fur.

Venus in Fur was a hit last season on Broadway, and now it's on the regional theater circuit, not only because it is a smart, sexy comedy but because it needs only two actors, making it cheap to stage (as astutely pointed out by Wall Street Journal theater critic Terry Teachout in a recent column about the lack of large-cast plays in these penny-pinching times). Sarah Nealis and Scott Kerns star in David Ives' play about the sexual, psychological, emotional and political dynamics between an auditioning actor and her director at the Asolo Repertory Theatre in Sarasota. Directed by Tea Alagić, the production opens Friday and runs through April 28. $25-$40. Preview at 8 tonight with tickets at $15-$25. (941) 351-8000 or 1-800-361-8388;
