The enormously popular musical Wicked has arrived in Tampa. But before the cast could soar with Defying Gravity, there was a little matter of unpacking, loading in and building out the sets.
That's where almost 100 people came in to help unload the massive panels, a menacing dragon, props, lighting, rigging and costumes for the musical, which kicked off a three-week run at the Straz starting Wednesday night.
Stage manager (and Wicked Munchkin) David O'Brien explained that it takes two-and-a-half days to unload and assemble the set for the musical, which tells the story of what happened before Dorothy dropped in to Oz.
