Pirates of the Caribbean, one of the most popular rides at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom, will be out of operation May 11 to Sept. 25.

Disney says the ride is undergoing a routine refurbishment.

Some industry watchers say it's unusual to have a ride as popular as Pirates out of order during the entire busy summer season. "The timing's a little odd," said Steve Baker, an industry consultant who used to work at Epcot.

Visitors to the park have complained in recent years that the boats sometimes were taking on water or getting guests soaked on its big drop.
