The eagerly awaited birth of a western lowland gorilla at Busch Gardens has ended in sadness.
The theme park announced that the baby, which had been anticipated for months, was born stillborn around 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
In a statement, Busch Gardens said, "Zoo veterinarians and staff are still investigating the situation. The mother Pele has no apparent signs of complications, but is still under close observation by the veterinary and animal care teams at Busch Gardens."
