Creative Pinellas introduces emerging artists and Illsol gets lit.

UP AND COMING: EMERGING ARTIST EXHIBITION

Local arts agency Creative Pinellas was established a few years ago, and ever since has supported artists with opportunities including informative workshops, networking events and, perhaps most importantly, with grants. One grant is for emerging artists, which this year, 10 artists working in five disciplines were selected to receive. Theyíll introduce those artists to the public this weekend, during the Emerging Artist Exhibition of New Work. Coordinated by Elizabeth Brincklow, the agencyís engagement director, the exhibition includes works in literature, choreography, music, media arts, and visual arts. Of the five visual artists, one is Nathan Beard, whose work is pictured. The exhibit will be held at the site of the former Gulf Coast Museum of Art, 12211 Walsingham Road, Largo. Itís open to the public from noon to 6 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, with an artistsí reception Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. creativepinellas.org.

LIT, FAM: ILLUMINATED

It just wouldnít be Halloween without an art show, when artists can explore their dark sides. In the case of Illuminated, however, itís the viewer whoís in the dark. The art show opening at Tampaís Illsol gallery on Saturday will feature glowing art shown in blacklight, including work from Yvonne Ferguson and Jujmo. The show also features 12 posters from Pale Horse Design, which explore themes of mythology from around the world, and are all for sale for $40. Dress in costume for awards, including ones for Best Handmade and Best Glowing. Enjoy music from DJ Wally Clark and Silver Fox and food by Mic Deluxx. The party runs from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. at 2744 N Florida Ave. Tickets are $10, or $45 for a ticket and a poster at bit.ly/2xfsDj7.
