Six local art exhibits you were too busy to see during the holidays

The threshold of a new year is a good time to catch the art exhibitions you may have been too busy to check out. Here are few suggestions.

TAMPA MUSEUM OF ART

120 W Gasparilla Plaza, Tampa; (813)421-8380; tampamuseum.org.

TMA has several exhibits that feature local artists. The museum is open Thursday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m, and from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday. They’ll be open 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. New Year’s Day. Admission is $15; $7.50 seniors, groups; $5 students; university students with valid IDs and children ages 6 and under free. Admission is pay-as-you-will from 4 to 10 p.m. Fridays, part of an Art on the House program.

Mernet Larsen: Getting Measured, 1957-2017: A survey of paintings and works on paper by the longtime Tampa resident and former professor of painting at USF. The exhibit features new works as well as never-before-seen drawings from her student days. Remains on display through Feb. 11.

Made in Tampa: Permanent Collection Artworks From the 1970s to Now: Features Tampa-themed works by Robert Rauschenberg, James Rosenquist, Richard Anuszkiewicz and others who have worked in the city. Remains on display through April 1.

Skyway Curators’ Choice: On the heels of the acclaimed Skyway: A Contemporary Collaboration, in which artists from Pinellas, Hillsborough and Sarasota counties were chosen to exhibit in three major institutions, the five exhibition curators chose to display additional work by two artists, Claudia Ryan and Rob Tarbell. On display through April 1.

Skyway Audience Choice: Likewise, the public voted to see more work from Elizabeth Condon and Bruce March. On display through April 1.

LEEPA-RATTNER MUSEUM OF ART

You’ll have to act fast to catch these exhibits, which close on Saturday. The museum will be open 10 a.m.-
8 p.m. Thursday; 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday. They’re closed on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. Admission is $7, $6 seniors, free children/students with ID/members/active military. Admission is by donation Thursdays from 5 to 8 p.m.

Fall Into Greatness: LRMA Celebrates 15 Years: The second installment in the museum’s anniversary celebration features work inspired by autumn, including works by Picasso, Christopher Still (pictured) and Dale Chihuly.

Fall Into Greatness: Contemporary Prints from the Jim and Martha Sweeny Collection: An exhibit of 14 recently acquired contemporary fine art prints from a cross-section of major printmakers, including Louisa Chase, Brad Davis, and Thornton Dial. The Leepa-Rattner Four mixed media works by Mary Proctor, Clint Griffin, and Lonnie Holly are also included.
