Since the first cave drawings, animals have been a favorite subject for artists. The tradition continues at Florida CraftArt's newest exhibition, opening Friday. A nationwide call went out for submissions to Creatures: Wild and Wooly, and more than 35 were selected by a jury. The creatures range from domestic to mythical to imaginary fabricated in a variety of fine craft media, even including jewelry. The exhibition is dedicated to the late Paul Eppling, whose whimsical creatures made from recycled metals were widely collected and can be found publicly all over St. Petersburg. The opening reception and awards ceremony is 5:30-7:30 p.m. at 501 Central Ave. in St. Petersburg. Admission is free. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. (727) 821-7391. floridacraftart.org.

Cars really are works of art, especially if they're tricked out, muscled up or just classic and well taken care of. So it's not too far of a stretch to think of a combination car-themed art show, classic car cruise-in, right? That's just what happening at Project 30 Pat on Saturday, at Studio 330 in St. Petersburg. The event came about when host Jackie Fischer and her friend photographer Patrick Buckley went to a car show back in January. Later, they thought of having an exhibit of his photos of the event. The idea snowballed until it became an art show featuring Buckley, Ryan Cullen, Nate Greco, Todd Frain and Daniel Mrgan. The public are invited to bring their classic cars, and it will be a full-on party, with a DJ, beer and the Clara Rose ice cream truck. Bring school supplies for the Pinellas County Stuff the Bus and get free drink tickets. 7-11 p.m. at 2830 Scherer Drive.
