Space paintings on display at Polk Museum

In the 1960s, when the space program was thriving, officials invited artists to visit NASA and paint whatever they wanted. The result is a lovely collection, now part of the Smithsonian Institution, that is on loan to the Polk Museum of Art, 800 E Palmetto Ave., Lakeland, through Dec. 7. Shown is Robert T. McCall's Apollo 8 Coming Home, oil on canvas. polkmuseumofart.org or (863) 688-7743.
