Before a hurricane threatens, make sure you and your loved ones have agreed on a plan to evacuate, preferably to an area that is not threatened or to higher ground nearby. Though the county opens shelters for those in need, going to one can mean other hardships, such as a lack of bedding; crowded, noisy conditions; a no-pets policy (unless you have made earlier arrangements or are going to a pet-friendly shelter); and having to deal with people telling you what to do.
But if you have no other choice, please use the map above to research the shelter that you think is best for you. Because when a storm is threatening, you'll want to have a plan in place for being safe.
