A cold front is moving through the Tampa Bay area Tuesday morning, bringing with it early morning showers and pockets of heavy rain as things begin to settle and cool into the afternoon, forecasters with the National Weather Service said.

According to the Weather Service, skies will start to clear north to south as the front pushes down the state, bringing behind it that now-familiar pool of high pressure to cool the area for a few days. Cooler areas will start making its way into the area by the afternoon, keeping temperatures mostly steady in the lower 70s throughout the day and heading into the evening. There won't be the typical afternoon warming, forecasters said. Skies should be clear by lunch time, with a few lingering showers.

More cold air will settle into the area overnight, dropping into the low 50s. That'll pick up slightly Wednesday afternoon as we head into the upper 50s and lower 60s for the afternoon high. The week's coldest temperatures will come as we head into Thursday, when it'll drop into the lower 40s and dip into the 30s in some areas. Things will start to warm Thursday afternoon as highs head back into the middle 60s and continue to rise through the weekend before another front comes through on Sunday.

The Weather Service said temperatures tonight and Wednesday will be about 10 degrees below average.
