Forecast: Hot and humid conditions will persist across Tampa Bay

Another cool-down isn't due until early next week, but for now Florida's going to stay pretty warm and muggy.

Some residents experienced patchy fog early Wednesday morning, and highs are expected to rise to the mid to upper 80s by the early afternoon with slight cloud cover. There is a 30 percent chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms late in the day, according to the National Weather Service.

Over the next few days, a stalled area of high pressure -- one of the factors for this week's heat and humidity -- will begin to dissipate. Temperatures will continue to run higher than normal on Thursday with a slight chance of showers in the late afternoon.

Overnight temperatures will drop to the low 70s with a high dew point indicating some patchy fog early Thursday.

By Friday, a weak cold front will push toward the Southeast. Ahead of that front, warm and humid conditions will persist, and over the weekend, temperatures will continue reaching to the mid 80s with a slight chance of showers.

The front will drift slowly over the peninsula but isn't expected to bring cooler conditions to Tampa Bay, instead it will most likely dissolve near the Nature Coast, forecasters said.

Another cold front will sweep further southeast around Monday or Tuesday, plunging Tampa's lows on Tuesday to below 50, the National Weather Service said.
