A native of Washington, D.C., Ivan Penn joined the Times in July 2006, after more than 12 years with the Baltimore Sun. Penn covers consumer issues as part of the Times' Business team and writes a column, called The Consumer's Edge, which appears Saturdays. He provides information to consumers to help them navigate the marketplace as members of the "Greedy Family" (businesses that take advantage of people) make it difficult for the average person to live. He is married and has three children.
