Helen and Bob Brass of Largo recently celebrated 70 years of marriage. They were married on Oct. 11, 1942, at Parris Island, S.C., just before Mr. Brass left to serve in the Marine Corps during World War II. He was 19 and she was 17.
Mr. Brass was stationed in San Diego and then Hawaii. On one occasion, he typed a letter to his wife that told the story of a young Marine who was loyal and dedicated to new his wife and family and his country. The letter, which Mrs. Brass still has, was typed on a roll of paper that ended up being 10 feet long....
