Former Florida State star Chris Weinke is joining Alabama's coaching staff as an offensive analyst, according to this report from The Tuscaloosa News.
Three thoughts:
1. The rich keep getting richer. 'Bama found a way to replace offensive analysts like former D-I head coaches Mike Locksley and Steve Sarkisian with a quarterback who has coached and played in the NFL...and won a national title and Heisman Trophy. Not bad, I guess.
2. I wonder if this opens up a bigger pipeline from Bradenton's IMG Academy to Tuscaloosa. The Crimson Tide's 2017 recruiting class includes two from IMG (five-star talent Dylan Moses and long snapper Thomas Fletcher). Running back Bo Scarbrough has IMG ties, too. And so, of course, does Weinke, who used to be the program's head coach. Weinke was one reason why the Seminoles' recruiting classes have had strong IMG influences.
3. Maybe it's something, maybe it's nothing, but it's interesting that 'Bama just hired one of the biggest names in FSU history...six months and a day before the Tide plays FSU in Atlanta.
