30 years later, which bomb is brighter? The Golden Child vs. Three Amigos

It's hard to believe that two of the '80s most notoritiously disappointing movies - The Golden Child and Three Amigos - both were released to theaters on the same day: Dec. 12, 1986. But it's true.

Calling either movie a bomb might be a little antagonizing. The Golden Child did score close to $80 million at the box office on a budget of just $25 million. But fans (and studio execs) were expecting more out of Eddie Murphy in his first movie after Beverly Hills Cop.

As for Three Amigos, well, it make money too, but with a cast featuring Steve Martin and Chevy Chase, fireworks were expected. What we got instead of a muffled fizzle. But that's what happens in Hollywood when a movie idea sits around for seven years and goes through multiple directors and cast members.
