Should St. Petersburg crack down on noise at Jannus Landing?

Published March 13, 1990|Updated Oct. 16, 2005

St. Petersburg officials are aggressively prosecuting a concert promoter for alleged noise violations in the Jannus Landing courtyard downtown. Some people disagree with the city's actions, saying the events bring people downtown and that the city's noise ordinance is outdated and should not be allowed to hinder activity in the city's major activity center. Others say that the music is a nuisance to nearby residents, violates noise ordinances, and that people shouldn't be subjected to such noise just because they live downtown. What do you think? In 100 words or fewer, City Issue invites readers to share their thoughts about the city's noise ordinance. The deadline forresponses is noon Monday. A sample of responses will be published on this page Feb. 23. Write your opinion to CITY ISSUE, P.O. Box 419, St. Petersburg 33731.
