SEMINOLE - Seminole Sam, the abandoned infant found outside a Seminole church Sunday, remained hospitalized Tuesday in good condition at Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg. It is uncertain when the baby will be released to custody of the state Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services.
Hospital officials said the baby's condition will be evaluated daily until physicians determine he can be released.
Drug tests are standard procedure for such babies, but the results are confidential.
Pinellas County sheriff's detectives investigating the case had not found the infant's parents.
The baby was only 2 to 6 hours old when he was found wrapped in a bed sheet outside Blessed Sacrament Church about 6 p.m. Sunday.
Anyone with information about the baby or his parents is asked to call sheriff's Cpl. Lee Miller at 587-6300.
