BRADENTON - A taxi driver shot and wounded a man who held him up at knifepoint Tuesday morning, the Manatee County Sheriff's Department said. Phillip Lee Barr, a Yellow Cab driver, shot Stacy Lamar Hornes in the arm as Hornes and an accomplice ran from the cab with $17, sheriff's spokesman Dave Bristow said. Hornes was arrested about half an hour later after a family member drove him to Manatee County Memorial Hospital, Bristow said. Hornes, 18, and James Eugene White, 22, were charged with robbery and were in the Manatee County Jail Tuesday night in lieu of $8,005 bail each. The state attorney's office will decide whether the cab driver will be charged. Bicycle bandit holds up bank in Bradenton
BRADENTON - The bandit on a bicycle has struck again. The robber, who always wears a motorcycle helmet and usually escapes on a bicycle, held up a Goldome Savings Bank on Tuesday morning in Bradenton. Authorities suspect the same armed man is responsible for five other bank robberies in Manatee and Sarasota counties in recent months. "We've had three with the same guy," said Cpl. Mike Bessette of the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office. The suspect is a white man, about 6 feet 1 and 190 pounds. On Tuesday he was wearing a black motorcycle-type jacket, jeans and black boots.
