Vocational center may change name

The Fred K. Marchman Vocational Center may be in for a change soon.Officials at Pasco's vocational center have proposed that the school's name be changed to the Fred K. Marchman Career Center. It's a slight difference, but school officials say it's an important one. "Vocational seems to carry a meaning of a guy who mixes cement," said Randy Sushko, supervisor of vocational education. "It does not sound very high-tech." If the name change is approved by the School Board, it would mean changing stationery and signs. But Sushko said students at the center easily could make those changes.

Principal for new school recommended LAND O'LAKES - The principal at Schrader Elementary soon may be heading up a new school just a few miles away. With the new Giella Elementary School scheduled to open next school year, Superintendent of Schools Tom Weightman said he will recommend that Schrader principal Sherry Heyen be transferred to the new school.

Correction New Port Richey City Council candidate Lizabeth Jacobs is currently head of the Zoning Board of Appeals. A story Tuesday incorrectly stated her status on the board.
