Council to hear about police indictments

Fifth Judicial Circuit State Attorney Brad King said Wednesday that hewill meet with the City Council today to try to answer questions about the state's investigation of the Crystal River Police Department. But he cautioned, "There's not a whole lot I can tell them right now," because the cases against three police officers, including Chief David Cook, who were indicted last month by a grand jury are pending. The meeting, which is open to the public, is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in the City Hall meeting room.

Officer pleads innocent to theft, perjury INVERNESS - Crystal River Police Sgt. Ron Roppolo has pleaded innocent to three misdemeanor charges accusing him of theft and perjury, records show. Roppolo was one of three city police officials indicted by a grand jury after a five-month investigation of the department.

Roppolo's attorney, David Dee of Tampa, filed a written notice of Roppolo's plea Tuesday in County Court. Judge Gary Graham has recused himself from the case.
