East Bay, Plant City, Lakeland-Lake Gibson and Lakeland advanced to the semifinals in the Class 4A, District 5 girls basketball tournament at East Bay. Lakeland-Lake Gibson defeated Bloomingdale 89-47, Lakeland downed Brandon 60-40, East Bay beat Armwood 64-30, and Plant City defeated Winter Haven 77-46.
In tonight's games, East Bay is scheduled to meet Lakeland at 6:15 and Plant City will play Lake Gibson at 8 p.m. In the East Bay win, the Indians' first team All-Western Conference National Division guard Ana Rosario set a blistering pace on both offense and defense.
Rosario made four open-court steals with follow-up field-goals in the first half, and led the defense in holding Armwood's Tracie Underwood to only three points in the first two quarters.
Rosario scored a game-high 29 points.
"I was really hyped up tonight and ready to go," Rosario said.
In the second half Underwood found ways to break loose to lead the Hawks in scoring with 17 points.
Sophomore Angie Pyle scored 18 for the Indians.
Lakeland's zone defense and full-court pressure kept Brandon away from the basket early in the game, allowing the Eagles to score only two points in the first quarter.
It was only in the second half that Brandon's Chanda Finch caught fire to score 19 of her game high 21 points.
