Semi-rural Pasco County may not look like the perfect setting for afairy-tale romance, but it's good enough for a film crew planning a Land O'Lakes location shoot this spring.
Tampa and areas around Land O'Lakes in Pasco will provide the backdrop for a 20th Century-Fox movie that will begin nine weeks of location filming in late March, said executive producer Richard Hashimoto in a phone interview from California. Additional filming will be done at Universal Studios in Orlando.
Teen heartthrob Johnny Depp, of the television show 21 Jump Street, will star in the film along with Winona Ryder and Dianne Wiest, Hashimoto said. The director will be Tim Burton, who directed Batman and teamed with Hashimoto for the movie Beetlejuice.
Hashimoto declined to say more than "fairy-tale romance" when describing the movie.
"That's about as specific as I can get. To get any more specific would be very confusing," Hashimoto said. "And I would have to give away too much of the story line."
Tampa film commissioner Pat Hoyt said she has been working on the project for three months, but filming plans are not yet complete.
Paul Griffin, executive director of the Pasco Committee of 100, said location scouts have talked to him about filming at several spots, including the Carpenters Run subdivision and along County Line Road.
Hashimoto declined to give specific locations because he still is
negotiating with residents and owners, but he said the whole area was chosen for the look of the residential communities.
"Plus the director really likes the skies, the blue skies and white clouds you have there," Hashimoto said.
The movie is scheduled for release in late fall.
