From rebel to president

Sam Nujoma, who launched a guerrilla war against South African rule in 1966, persevered for three decades in exile before his triumphant return to Africa's last colony. Nujoma never completed high school, but is a shrewd politician. "Others got their education while I led the struggle," said Nujoma, 60. He launched the war when South Africa rejected a world court judgment that its rule of Namibia is illegal.
