Stone's free throws lift Springstead in wild finish

A.J. Stone hit two free throws with seven seconds left in the game togive Springstead a 58-56 boys basketball victory over Gulf.

With 12 seconds left, Ryan O'Connell nailed a three-point field goal to give Springstead a 56-55 lead. O'Connell had six three-pointers in the game.

As Gulf brought the ball down court with nine seconds left, Eric Sanders of Springstead fouled the Buccaneers' Jerry White. White hit the front end of the one-and-one to tie the game but missed the second shot.

Springstead grabbed the rebound and Stone was fouled by Gulf's Brian Disney, setting up the winning free throws.

Gulf (11-16), which battled back from a seven-point halftime deficit, was led in scoring by White's 20.

Springstead (15-11) was led by O'Connell's 26.
