Palm Harbor man faces theft charge

A Palm Harbor man was arrested and charged with forgery and second-degree grand theft Friday after he used his employer's name to cash more than $63,000 in checks, according to jail records. Michael P. McIntee, 41, of 143 Lakeshore Drive, used the name Chester E. Fletcher on checks of Florida Dredge and Dock to put money in his personal savings account, according to jail records.

McIntee, who was employed last year as a bookkeeper with the company, wrote at least $3,000 in checks to a woman, who was identified as McIntee's future daughter-in-law.

McIntee apparently cashed the checks at a bank in Clearwater.

McIntee also had eight outstanding warrants for his arrest on similar charges. McIntee was being held in lieu of $19,000 bail late Saturday.
