Speedway runs out of parking space

Daytona International Speedway ran out of parking space Saturday for the Daytona 500 for the first time in the race's 32-year history. "We have nowhere else to put them," public relations director Larry Balewski said. He said tickets for walk-up spectators will remain on sale.

Earnhardt eyes win

Dale Earnhardt, who won the 1982 and '86 Goody's 300 races as well as Saturday's, now has won 13 Busch Grand National races.

The victory was worth $34,700 out of the record purse of $427,075. He hopes to join LeeRoy Yarborough (1969), Bobby Allison (1988) and Darrell Waltrip (1989) as a winner of the Goody's and the Daytona 500 on successive days.

Pileup one of biggest

The 23-car wreck in the 14th lap of the Goody's 300 was the biggest accident at Daytona since 37 cars were involved in a mishap in a 1960 modified sportsman race.

Eighteen cars in Saturday's pileup were knocked out, though four returned after repairs.

The only injured driver, Ron Cooper of Statham, Ga., was admitted to Halifax Medical Center with a concussion and abdominal pains.
