Bus service for disabled is expanded

Published Oct. 16, 2005

The Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority has increased evening service hours of the special door-to-door mini-bus service for the disabled. The service, called Dial-A-Ride Transit, is now operating from 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. The service formerly was available from 5:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. The new service hours also apply to passengers on PSTA's Sunlift, a similar mini-bus service in the North Pinellas area. It, too, is equipped to carry persons in wheelchairs and electric carts.

People with permanent or temporary mobility impairment must qualify for these services by completing a Verification of Disability form, which must be signed by a physician.

PSTA bus schedules are now available in the "City Hall in the Mall" kiosk at Tyrone Square Mall. In addition to route schedules, the booth distributes other PSTA information, including system maps and brochures explaining the transit system's special services and its money-saving passes and tickets.
