Cycle crash kills Brandon woman

A 23-year-old Brandon woman was killed early Saturday when the motorcycle on which she was riding crashed into a guardrail, according to Florida Highway Patrol duty officer Nancy Jennings. Dreana Renee Najar, 523 Camino Real Place, was pronounced dead at the scene by a representative from the county medical examiner's office.

Ms. Najar was a passenger on the 1990 Honda motorcycle driven by Stanley Phelps, 32, no known address. They were westbound on U.S. 92, east of U.S. 301, at 3:10 a.m. Saturday when Phelps apparently lost control of the motorcycle and hit the guardrail. Ms. Najar was thrown from the motorcycle and struck the rail.

Highway Patrol officials were unable to say whether Phelps was injured in the accident or taken to a hospital. Charges in the accident are pending, Jennings said.
