The Gulf opened up Saturday and a smorgasbord of Suncoast species continued eating through early Sunday evening. To the surprise of many, kingfish are feeding in about 50 feet of water off Clearwater. One charter boat came back with three, along with bonito.
Captain Dave Mistretta caught 10 grouper, three scamp, Spanish mackerel and bluefish.
Mike Joy, fishing about one mile north of Mistretta, caught two blackfin tuna.
Mistretta said the water temperature is up, and that brought in the fish.
"This is the transition week for the spring," he said.
