A 25-year-old woman died after falling from the sixth-floor balcony of a beachside motel Sunday night, officials said. Susan Swanson, a dental technician at a Navy facility in Orlando, fell at 6:51 p.m. from the balcony at the Inn on the Beach, according to a police report.
Ms. Swanson died at 7:30 p.m. at Halifax Medical Center, a nursing supervisor said.
Witnesses told police that the woman was leaning over the balcony on the east side of the building to get a better view of the ocean, when she lost her balance and fell over the edge. She landed on an asphalt lot about 60 feet below.
Daytona Beach Fire Department rescue workers treated her at the scene before she was airlifted to the hospital.
Police would not say whether the woman was alone in her room or whether the fall was alcohol-related.
