Pistons 94, Heat 85

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. _ Joe Dumars scored 20 points and Mark Aguirre had seven during a 13-2 second-quarter run that helped Detroit beat Miami 94-85 for its 12th straight victory.

The winning streak matches Philadelphia for the longest in the NBA this season. Miami lost its seventh straight game.

Dennis Rodman added 18 points and 11 rebounds and Isiah Thomas had 14 assists for the Pistons, whose longest winning streak before this one was 10 in 1987.

Sherman Douglas led Miami with 16 points.

Around the league

Trail Blazers: Portland is expected to be without Clyde Drexler for at least two games because of a badly sprained ankle suffered in Sunday's loss to Philadelphia. But the Trail Blazer feared the news could have been much worse.

Drexler was afraid he may have broken his left ankle while driving to the basket in the third quarter. He was helped from the court by a pair of teammates and was driven by his wife to a hospital for X-rays.

Knicks: Kiki Vandeweghe was scheduled to have gone through his first practice of the season Monday. He has missed the first 51 games, first with back problems and more recently with tendinitis in his left foot. "It's going to take him a little while to get himself back into the groove," coach Stu Jackson said.
