Junior Robbie Woods hit a grand slam and Bill Nance pitched a seven-hitter to lead Armwood to a 7-3 win over Chamberlain Tuesday at the Forest Hills Little League complex in the season opener for both teams. Nance, a reliever for much of last season, struck out nine, walked two and allowed seven hits in collecting the victory. The senior gave up three straight singles for a run in the bottom of the first, but settled down to retire 14 of the next 17 batters.
Only one of the three runs allowed by Nance was earned.
"Nance really pitched well tonight," Armwood coach K.B. Scull said. "He kept them off balance and mixed up his pitches well."
