Man is indicted in his wife's death

William Herrington, a 36-year-old Largo electrician, was indicted for first-degree murder Tuesday in the strangling death of his wife, Cathy. Pinellas County deputies say that Herrington strangled the Morton Plant Hospital nurse at their home following an argument Dec. 1, 1989. Mrs. Herrington, 33, had seen alawyer that day about getting a divorce. The couple lived at 12356 Cumberland Drive with their 6-year-old son, who was not home during the argument.Drifter is charged

in fatal stabbing

ST. PETERSBURG _ A Pinellas County grand jury indicted a 29-year-old drifter Monday on charges of fatally stabbing and robbing a St. Petersburg man last month. Michael Aaron Jackson was charged with first-degree murder and robbery in the Jan. 17 death of John Harrison Smith, 37, of 6009 41st Ave. N. Police say Smith was stabbed at least five times, beaten and robbed at 12:30 a.m. at 3013 30th Ave. N. Smith's body was found in a grassy area between a Quick Way laundry and Modern Printing.
