A Pasco school bus traveling in a rainstorm Tuesday failed to stop in time and struck the back of a pickup truck on State Road 54. The six elementary school pupils on the bus were not hurt in the accident, which occurred at 3:05 p.m. at SR 54 and Court Street near Zephyrhills, according to Michael Park, director of transportation for Pasco County schools.
The pupils were being driven from West Zephyrhills Elementary to Quail Hollow Elementary.
The driver of the bus also was uninjured. But either the driver or a passenger in the pickup truck was taken to the hospital for observation after complaining of back pain, said the bus driver, Phyllis Wilson.
Wilson, who has eight years' experience driving a school bus for Pasco, was charged with careless driving in the accident.
She said that the wet street made it impossible for her to stop in time, and that she had never had an accident and had never been issued a traffic citation.
