Robber holds up convenience store

TAMPA _ A man with a knife robbed a 62-year-old convenience store clerk Monday night, according to a Tampa Police report. At 10:55 p.m. the man entered the Circle K store at 4001 N Armenia Ave. The clerk was talking on the phone. He showed the woman a knife, then forced her to hang up and open the register. He fled with an undisclosed amount of cash. The clerk was not injured. Police had only a sketchy description of the man.Officer won't run for representative

TAMPA _ After a few weeks of mulling it over, Tampa Police Department Cpl. Gary Bradford has decided not to challenge state Rep. Elvin Martinez, D-Tampa, this year. "It's the wrong race at the wrong time for me," said Bradford, a 31-year-old Republican. Bradford's decision does not leave Martinez without a Republican opponent. Gladys Levy, a West Tampa community activist, plans to challenge the longtime politician for the House District 65 seat. Also considering running against Martinez is Democrat Angelo Perez, a history professor at Hillsborough Community College. Martinez has served in the state House of Representatives every year but four since 1966.
