70,000 Jaguars

LEONIA, N.J. _ Jaguar Cars Inc. said Tuesday it is is recalling more than 70,000 cars. It is recalling 38,315 1988 and 1989 Jaguar sedans, including the XJ6, Vanden Plas and Majestic, because of a brake-system defect. Jaguar said hoses that supply fluid to the power assist system could rupture, causing a loss of fluid that could lead to engine fire, smoke under the hood or loss of braking power. Jaguar is also recalling 31,835 1979-model XJ12 sedans and 1982 to 1990 model Jaguar XJ-S vehicles because the cruise control system could fail to disengage normally.
