Authorities searched Wednesday for a convicted murderer who escaped by concealing himself inside a prison truck that was delivering furniture made by inmates to a Daytona location, officials said. Glenn Chambers, 39, escaped Wednesday morning from the Polk Correctional Institute near Polk City, where he was serving a life sentence for first-degree murder and escape, said prison spokesman D.
Chambers was convicted in 1977 in Sarasota County in the beating death of his girlfriend, Connie Weeks. A death sentence that he received in the 1975 slaying was later reversed by the Florida Supreme Court.
Chambers had concealed himself inside the truck while it was being loaded, Henry said. He was later discovered missing during a routine prisoner count.
